MENTAL HEALTH
Understand yourself to build your awareness and understanding of others
Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Our state of mind affects how we think, feel, and behave. It also determines how we handle day to day pressure; how we relate to others, and make life choices. Unfortunately, mental health is still one of the great taboos; we can talk about our food and our exercise, but we are still resistant to how we feel emotionally, often through fear of being judged! Words you don’t want to hear – “get a grip and man up”.
If we eat and drink with wellbeing in mind; if we exercise regularly and build our immune systems we cope better and have better resilience to deal with the rigours of a busy life.
As mental health issues now stand as the number one cause for loss of working hours in the UK, it would be fair to assume that the use of medication is not having the desired effect (over 64million items of anti-depressants in 2017).
As a Healthy Leader you need to understand when pressure turns into stress; the type of stress that undermines a person’s well-being and ultimately their performance and productivity. Understand yourself to build your awareness and understanding of others. We will all need emotional support at some time in our lives.
